- To design web-based active/engagement course components that employ the results of physics education research
- To produce an effective course design, specifically tailored for technical subjects
- To incorporate these principles into compact learning modules for calculus-based introductory physics
- To structure an online course in calculus-based introductory physics as a model for web-based teaching of complex technical subjects
- To demonstrate that students learn the principles and methods of physics just as effectively through a properly designed online experience as they would in a face-to-face classroom, while flexibility with the distance delivered structure.
